At this morning's Breakfast of Champions, Mr. Rush, Principal of Snyder Junior High, announced the Students of the Six Weeks and Staff of the Six Weeks. Students were nominated by staff, and staff were selected by students for being examples of the SJH expectations: respectful, responsible, accountable, and kind.
Honorees were treated to an impressive performance by the 8th-grade band, followed by breakfast burritos and orange juice. They were also presented with a bag of candy, a gift card donated by The Dandelion Boutique, and a framed and personalized word cloud describing each recipient.

The Snyder ISD Dual Language Program is pleased to invite you to our Dia de los Muertos Celebration, where we will come together to honor the cultural heritage of our families and friends. This event will take place at the Snyder High School Cafeteria on Monday, October 30th, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
During this event, you will have the opportunity to explore a gallery of altars created by our dedicated families. Additionally, you'll be able to view various projects crafted by students from Snyder Primary art classes, the SJHS Spanish Department, the SJHS STEM Department, and the Snyder ISD Migrant Program. Check with your child's teacher to see if their class is participating.
This is a come-and-go event, so feel free to join us at your convenience and take your time exploring the exhibits. We look forward to celebrating Dia de los Muertos and the rich cultural traditions that make our community so unique. We hope to see you there!

We want to thank Charlie, RN, BSN, with UMC NEIDS, for visiting Snyder Junior High School and Snyder High School during the past two days. Vaping nicotine, synthetic drugs, and other "natural" alternatives is a dangerous and even deadly trend among youth and adults 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙬𝙞𝙙𝙚.
We have been flooded with feedback from students about the impact this presentation has had on them. Most had no idea nicotine vapes are much more dangerous than advertisers claim - ask your student how heating oils accelerate adverse health effects. Others were surprised that vapes could be laced with deadly chemicals like insecticide and fentanyl and that dabbing CBD oil is likely not what they think it is.
Students were also surprised that vapes can cause anxiety, and their addictive properties make quitting even more difficult. Many expressed concern for the health of loved ones and friends, some recognized their own need to quit, and others had their eyes opened to the deadly consequences that one hit off of a vape could have.
These topics are not easy, but they are necessary to discuss. We hope this empowers students and adults to make informed decisions to improve their health and well-being.

Last week, junior high students created posters and cards for the custodians. The student council hung up all the cards and posters throughout the campus and personally thanked them. Their hard work is essential in keeping our schools safe and clean! We appreciate you!

Why all this talk about attendance? Studies show that chronic absences — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.
Attendance has improved overall this year over last year - great news! This week, we had 94.53% of students in attendance at school! That means we have about 132 students absent each day.
This week's statistics:
Snyder Primary: 94.73%
Snyder Intermediate: 96.95%
Snyder Junior High: 95.30%
Snyder High School 92.55%
Unfortunately, high school attendance has decreased slightly compared to the previous year, with about 9% of juniors and seniors missing school each day. In high school, attendance is crucial, as students who are absent for more than 10% of the time may face the risk of not graduating.
We're taking a strong stance on attendance this year because attendance matters. Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently.
If you have not read our updated attendance policy, need clarification on exempt vs. nonexempt absences, or need help submitting an absence note, visit our attendance page: www.snyderisd.net/attendance.
Thanks again to our parents, students, teachers, and staff. Keep up the GREAT work, and we will see you on Monday (remember, no school this Friday, September 29th!).
