🇺🇸In honor of Memorial Day, Snyder ISD will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2021. All classes will resume on Tuesday, June 1st. We hope you have an enjoyable and safe three-day weekend while remembering the reason we pause and honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. 🗓 The district calendars for this year and next year are posted on our website, www.snyderisd.net, under the "Families & Students" section and in the "Links" section of ParentSquare.

Another round of severe weather is predicted this evening; therefore, we are postponing tonight's Eligibility Forms meeting. However, SISD Athletic Trainer, Alex Marsh, has created a helpful video that will walk you through creating an account to complete the required paperwork. We encourage you to complete this step and schedule your child's physical ASAP. Your child may not participate until these tasks are completed. Here is the link to the video: https://youtu.be/RhaBiwEnNxE

The band has selected Drum Majors for 2021! Junior, Steven Jackson, will serve as Head Drum Major. Assistant Drum Major is sophomore, Keylee Wagner. Both were selected following an audition process that assessed both musical and marching technique, and their character and leadership skills. All candidates demonstrated dedication and motivation. Our graduating seniors can be reassured they are leaving the program in capable hands.

As we come to the end of Teacher Appreciation Week I am compelled to proclaim that every day should be “Teacher Appreciation Day”! As I have said many times before, short of the clergy there is not a more honorable profession than being a teacher. Every day teachers inspire students, change lives and truly shape the world. Our teachers do so much more than just teach reading, writing, and arithmetic; they also deal with countless issues that students bring with them to school each and every day. Snyder ISD is blessed to have amazing teachers, so on this last day of Teacher Appreciation Week, I say THANK YOU! Sincerely, Eddie Bland, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools, Snyder ISD

The newly formed SHS 4-H Club was well represented at its inaugural entry in the 4H Food Challenge Competition! Placing second in the Healthy Side Dish category were Adrianna Lopez, Analey Juarez, Allie, Gullett, and Bethany Yanez. Morgan Montoya, Tiffany Salinas, Grace Bird, and Akylah Taylor also competed at the district meet. Mrs. Butler, Snyder High School Culinary Arts teacher, said, “I'm so proud of all of these students! I can't wait to see what next year holds for these teams!” Mrs. Butler would also like to thank SHS Freshman Whitley Anderson, who helped train the teams. “Whitley helped immensely because this was my first introduction to the Food Challenge Competition. I learned so much from her along with our teams! We couldn't have done it without her." Scurry County 4-H Extension Agent, Ronda White, came and worked with the teams before the competition. Butler said, “Because of these two phenomenal ladies, our students were better prepared for district competition.”

The first round of STAAR testing begins tomorrow! Fourth grade students and Snyder High School English 1 and English 2 students will test this week. Tue 4/27 • STAAR: English 1 Tue 4/27 • STAAR: 4th Grade Writing Thu 4/29 • STAAR: English 2 Here are a few last-minute reminders: 1. Go to bed at a reasonable time. (10 hours of sleep is optimal.) 1. Eat a good breakfast (with protein if possible). Arrive early if you plan to eat breakfast at school. 2. Be to school early to have plenty of time to get ready for testing. We start testing at 8:00 am. 3. Students will need their laptops FULLY charged! This is important so that they don't have to worry about running out of battery during the test. The teachers only have a certain amount of outlets and we want students to be sitting in their optimal spot to be successful. 4. Encourage your child and tell them to do their best. They have been working very hard and we are proud of them! Parents have also been sent specific information from their school principals through ParentSquare. To view the complete SISD STAAR testing schedule, visit our website www.snyderisd.net or click on the "events" icon in your ParentSquare app. Specific test days for third-grade students will be announced by your child's teacher.
